Aperitifs & Sparkling wines

Traditional alcohol from Brittany, a blend of calvados and apple juice matured in oak barrels.

 

Chouchenn, 13.5º (glass)                                                                   £2.30

Another traditional alcohol from Brittany, Chouchenn is fermented apple juice and honey, which gives a taste between a mead and a sweet wine.

A perfect example of a well-balanced, medium sweet wine with a certain sharpness and a honeyed taste.

Full bodied sparkling wine from Chenin. One century ago, Saumur was as well known as champagne and you can tell why!

A very nice chenin from Saumur, the heart of Loire Valley. An authentic wine, fresh and dynamic with a subtle honey taste.

A refreshing chardonnay, fruity but also with a good complexity.

 

Chablis A.O.C. D. Tremblay 2006                                                        £14.70

This is a typical Chablis, all the subtle taste of the chardonnay blend, with the renowned mineral soil of Burgundy.

Very pleasant chenin, dynamic but not aggressive, with a very clean taste.

 

Sancerre, Domaine Nodet, 2006                                                         £15.45

The sauvignon at is best, just a subtle fruitiness and a complex minerality.

Round chardonnay, this is a great Burgundy white, powerful and yet fruity.

 

Red wines

Full bodied red wine from cabernet franc. Claude Papin offers  us a wine without compromise, full of personality, dynamic and  interesting flavours. We love it!

 

Morgon, Chateau du Châtelard, 2005                                                 £13.40

A fruity wine from Beaujolais but with a good body. A try for people unfamiliar with  the gamay variety. Proof Beaujolais can produce some great wine.

Another great wine from Beaujolais, more fruit, with flowery aromas.

 

Saumur champigny, Chateau De Chaintres, 2003                               £13.95

Very smooth cabernet franc, very good balance. Matured in oak, which is unusual in Loire valley  but this gives a good complexity without being overpowering.

 

Bordeaux supérieur, Chateau De Lisennes, 2003                                £16.50

A great Bordeaux, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with some oat flavour in the background. Still young but ready to drink for this exceptionally rich year.

 

Bourgogne St Aubin, J C Bachelet, 2004                                             £18.80

Hemingway said “Wine is one of the most civilised things in the world”, this suits this very nice Burgundy, subtle with so many aromas to enjoy.

 

Saint Emilion Grand Cru, Chateau Yon St Martin, 2001                       £20.60

Very good year and after 7 years in bottle this St Emilion offer you a typical expression of the a very concentrate Merlot

 

Pommard, Domaine du Pavillon, 1998                                                £22.95

Another great Burgundy wine, full of delicacy. Nearly 10 years old which gives this wine a fabulous complexity of flavour.

 

Pomerol, Chateau Lafleur du Roy, 2001                                             £24.60

Only if you’re not in any rush!  So much to discover in this wine. This is round, opulent and long lasting.
